Freshwater Aquariums A properly setup freshwater aquarium will make a tasteful statement for your home or office. There are several varieties or families of freshwater species. One of the most common fish family favorites is the Cichlid family which has one of the brightest color spectrums within the freshwater species of fish. However, for the most part each variety of cichlid maintains a very familiar body shape, leaving less variation. Some of the colors you can expect to see in the cichlid family include, blue, yellow, orange, red, and pink. These type of fish are bright, making them highly visible and can grow to several inches long, a great pick for a nursing home or someone that wants to know their fish will be noticed!

Another popular variety of freshwater fish would be the tropical family. Tropical fish include: Mollies, Guppies, Tin Foil Barbs, Tetras, Zebras, Placo’s, Rosy Barbs, Tiger Barbs, Catfish, and even little Sharks along with a wide assortment of other family members. This family of fish is very passive and provides a soothing setting for a child’s room or a comfortable waiting area. Freshwater aquariums are the simplest to maintain. In about 45 minutes every other week (for tanks up to about 100 gallons), you will be able to maintain a beautiful freshwater aquarium, or you may choose to have Something Fishy eliminate the guesswork of maintenance by having our aquarist visit you on a bi-weekly basis.

These aquariums include a wide spectrum of exotic saltwater fish amongst fabricated life-like coral pieces.

Saltwater fish only aquariums are the slightly more challenging to maintain than a freshwater tank. But once you learn the ropes, you will find it takes about an hour and a half every other week (for tanks up to about 100 gallons) to maintain a beautiful and healthy saltwater aquarium. Of course, you may choose to have Something Fishy eliminate the guesswork of maintenance by having our aquarist visit you on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

Reef Aquariums

A saltwater reef system is the ultimate aquarium! Becoming more and more popular amongst the serious hobbyist; it’s still a well kept secret in the market place. Reef aquariums are of the most challenging to maintain. However, a properly maintained aquarium is certainly worth any efforts that are dedicated to its maintenance. The average size reef aquarium (up to 100 gallons) can be properly maintained in about 1 hour per week. Should you feel you need a little help, some initial training, or want to eliminate any maintenance - remember, Something Fishy will be there to help you maintain your aquatic décor!
